alternator wiring help | DodgeTalk ForumWell, there are 2 different kinds of alternators on these truck, a regular Chrysler one and a hi-power Bosch 100 amp unit. The Bosch is roughly 1.5 times bigger and uses totally different brackets. The 2 field wires from the alternator both run to the voltage regulator, IIRC.

Improved Wiring for older Mopars After studying the wiring diagrams, I discovered that (per the Dodge Factory Service Manual) a 35 amp was standard, while a 60 amp “heavy duty” alternator was optional - and the wiring was different for that option. Nowadays, 60 amps would be small and 100 amps is common. I have been running a 60 amp alternator for about 8 years now.

If you think your regulator is failing, open it up and clean the "points" with some emory paper (sometimes these points get corroded). NOTE: in diagram #1, the FLD is generally green, and the IGN wire is Dark blue on stock wiring harnesses.
